Motorist Faces Charges in Connection with the Death of Fairfield Mother Meghan Raveis, Police Confirms

Local authorities have apprehended a woman in relation to the tragic pedestrian crash that resulted in the death of Meghan Raveis, daughter-in-law of real estate agency founder William Raveis.

Meghan Rice, 51, hailing from Newtown, faces charges of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to maintain the proper lane, and driving at an excessive speed, announced Lt. Michael Paris, spokesperson for the Fairfield Police Department, on Monday evening. Following her arrest, Rice was released on $100,000 bond and is slated to make a court appearance on July 31, as per Paris.

The incident unfolded shortly before 3 p.m. on June 23, when Meghan Raveis, 45, wife of William Raveis Inc. co-president Ryan Raveis and also the managing director of the William Raveis Charitable Fund, was walking southward along the northbound travel lane in the 500 block of Redding Road. A southbound vehicle, driven by Rice, veered into the northbound lane, collided with a mailbox, and struck Meghan Raveis, as reported by the police.

Rice, identified as the driver, remained present at the scene and cooperated fully with the ensuing investigation, law enforcement officials stated. Tragically, Meghan Raveis was pronounced deceased at a local medical facility. The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner deemed her passing an accident.

Her family wrote in her obituary. “Meghan Raveis was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend whose loving heart was felt by those around her,” “She was a model of devotion to her family, friends, and interests which brought communities together and advocated on behalf of those in need.”

On Monday, Rice surrendered herself at the police headquarters, according to Lt. Michael Paris.
