Man accused of stealing $56K worth of jewelry from Fairfield Jeweler

Authorities in Fairfield have apprehended a suspect accused of stealing jewelry valued at $56,000 from a local jewelry store in November. On November 29, police responded to an alarm triggered by a broken glass at Lenox Jewelers on Black Rock Turnpike. Upon arrival, an officer witnessed a vehicle fleeing the scene at a high speed but could not intercept it. Police confirmed that the suspect had broken into the store by smashing the front window and made off with the valuable jewelry.

The Fairfield Police Department Quality of Life Unit collaborated with the Bridgeport Auto Theft Task Force to investigate the burglary.

On December 7, the officers successfully located the suspect vehicle involved in the burglary. They immediately started monitoring its movements. At midnight, the police observed the suspect vehicle entering the parking lot of Lenox Jewelers and heading toward the rear of the building. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the police swiftly approached the vehicle and apprehended the driver. The driver, Juan J. Aviles, aged 30, was charged with first-degree criminal attempt of burglary, interfering with police, and misusing plates. He was granted a bond of $250,000 and was taken to court on December 8.
