William A. Durkin, 98, Of Fairfield: Obituary

William A. Durkin, 98 of Fairfield, the beloved husband of the late Mary (Gilleran) Durkin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was born in Danbury to the late Amelia (Schmidt) and Peter J. Durkin. and was a longtime Fairfield resident. Bill was a United States Navy veteran who served honorably in WWII.

Post-military, Bill began his career working for Columbia Records, a division of CBS. He met his wife there and remained loyal to this company his entire career. He was an active parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and loved to golf. The only time he missed an event his children or grandchildren were in was likely when he and Mary were on one of the many cruises they enjoyed together.

Bill is survived by his loving children, Kathleen Whitelock and her husband Chris, Mary Roland and her longtime partner Carl Velander and William A. Durkin, Jr. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Sean Roland and his wife Leeann Deloma, Stephen & Kimberly Whitelock and great granddaughter, Nola Roland. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Peter J. Durkin, Jr

Friends may greet his family on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Rd. in Fairfield. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
