Bernard M. Leskovsky, 72,  Fairfield: Obituary

The following obituary is from Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home:

Bernie was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was proud of his service to his country. In his later years, he did what he could to support his fellow veterans whose lives were impacted by their service. He loved the USA dearly and he was a true patriot.

Bernie was a lifelong Fairfield resident who graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and attended Tech College. He truly celebrated his life with his many close friends. His career spanned numerous vocations from construction, window and door installation, to being the road manager for a band who traveled the east coast from the forests of Maine down to the shores of Florida. It was in that career that he earned his nickname “Bert”. After long nights of returning from gigs, he and the soundman for the band would watch early morning TV featuring the Muppets “Bert and Ernie” and would refer to each other as them. In his later years, he ran a driving service and worked in property management.

His life on the road with “The Uncle Chick Band” (UCB) offered many experiences on all levels of the emotional spectrum, both highs and lows, but he relished every moment. Bert would regale his friends later in life with tidbits of stories at clubs like the Lone Star Café in NYC, Toad’s Place in New Haven, Chance in Nashville, TN and Art Stock’s Playpen of Fort Lauderdale, FL as well as local haunts such as the Surfside Café, the Pumpernickle Pub and the Tin Whistle. He witnessed some of the great artists of our time at the same venues when the band performed as the opening act.

His large circle of friends became a surrogate family upon the passing of his mother, who he supported through her declining years. He would always make it a point to visit and call them on a regular basis to keep them abreast of happenings. He never left an encounter or an event without giving a big hug and saying, “I love you man”. We love you too Bert.

He leaves behind his family of many caring friends. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Marilyn Leskovsky, niece Erica Leskovsky Messina of Chicago, IL, nephew Stephen Leskovsky of Hermosa Beach, CA, cousin Joan Lizotte and her sons, Joel and James Lizotte and their wives and children of Red Bank, NJ. He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen M. and Mary Ann Leskovsky as well as his only brother, Stephen Leskovsky.

Thank you to Black Rock Church community engagement for all of their loving hard work and support of Bernie in his later years.

An interment with full military honors will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas Cemetery in Fairfield. All are welcomed to attend.
