Investigation Launched into Inappropriate Content in Keynote Speaker’s Fairfield Public Schools Presentation

School officials in Fairfield are conducting an investigation after a keynote speaker’s presentation to staff at the convocation on Thursday contained explicit and inappropriate sexual language, according to the superintendent. Fairfield Superintendent Michael Testani shared a message with the community stating that the district does not condone this behavior and will no longer be partnering with the speaker, Derrick Gay, pending a thorough investigation. The superintendent emphasized the district’s commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all staff and students.

During the event, an inappropriate website address also appeared on one of the slides, unrelated to the presentation content. The superintendent expressed regret over this incident and stated that they are unable to determine how the URL ended up there. He assured everyone that the situation is being taken seriously.

Derrick Gay, the speaker, claims that he did not place the content on the slide and believes his computer was accessed by a third party. He expressed distress over the incident and is working with professionals to investigate the activity on his computer.

In addition to the keynote speaker, staff at the convocation also heard from First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick, Board of Education Chair Jennifer Jacobsen, and U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, who sent a special greeting. The event also served to welcome new staff and honor longstanding employees.
