Sacred Heart University student charged with DUI in a crash that injured other students and the Uber driver

A Sacred Heart University sophomore has been charged with DUI in a crash that injured five others last month, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

Five students and an Uber driver were injured in a crash on Sept. 29 at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Park Avenue, in front of campus.

Five Sacred Heart University students and an Uber driver were injured in a crash near the Fairfield campus. Fairfield police reported that Tyler Delk, a 19-year-old from New Jersey, was driving an Audi eastbound when it hit a curb. The Audi then crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a Toyota Corolla, which was being driven by an Uber driver with four freshmen passengers.

According to the police, Delk was driving over 85 mph and was ten times over the legal alcohol limit at the time of the accident. In Connecticut, the legal alcohol limit for individuals under 21 is .02%.

The other five people who were injured in the crash have been released from the hospital, as confirmed by the police.

After a crash that left five Sacred Heart University students and an Uber driver injured, five out of six people involved have been released from the hospital. Delk, who remains hospitalized, was arrested and charged on Tuesday with driving under the influence, reckless driving, five counts of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, and five counts of reckless endangerment.

Delk has posted a $250,000 bond set by the court and will appear in court once he is medically cleared.
