Four Suspects Arrested in Southport for Alleged Mail Theft
Fairfield police reported that the incident happened on Friday morning on Pequot Road in Southport. UPDATE
Four men hailing from New York were taken into custody on larceny and associated charges Friday morning, subsequent to allegations made by Fairfield police claiming they had stolen mail from USPS blue boxes in Southport.
Officers located a vehicle with the engine running in front of the Spic & Span Market at 329 Pequot Road and noticed one occupant sleeping in the driver’s seat. In plain view, officers observed a large amount of open mail, rat traps with a sticky substance, and items used to retrieve mail from blue USPS collection boxes. Officers checked nearby collection boxes and observed that they also had a sticky substance applied on the inside, as well as a belt protruding from one box. The suspect found in the vehicle was taken into custody. Perimeters were established, and with the assistance of K9s, three additional suspects were apprehended.
